PARIS:

Five people, including a hotel manager and the manager's son, were stabbed at a hotel in the southern French city of Marseille on Tuesday and one was in critical condition, the city's prosecutor said.

The Tunisian attacker, who had two knives and a crowbar, died after being shot by police, prosecutor Nicolas Bessone and the police said.

Bessone told reporters that the attacker, a legal immigrant, had been evicted from the hotel for not paying rent.

The incident took place at 2:45 p.m. (1245 GMT) in Marseille's first arrondissement, or district.
