State lawyers in Tennessee, US, are strongly pushing back against attempts by death row inmate Christa Pike to leave the prison infirmary and move into a lower-security unit. According to the New York Post, she remains so badly injured that she now needs constant medical care.

According to the report, legal filings submitted by the state argue that Pike is demanding and "thinks she knows better than her treating providers and officials about how to treat her medical" needs.

"[Pike] thinks she knows better than her treating providers and [Tennessee Department of Corrections] officials about how to treat her medical needs while keeping her safe and secure," as quoted by the outlet, state attorneys claimed in the filing.

Pike, who survived a botched lethal injection attempt, has been dealing with ongoing physical and emotional issues.

Her legal team has raised concerns about her current living conditions, claiming she faces harsh restrictions and environmental challenges while trying to recover.

Meanwhile, Pike has continued leaning on her Buddhist spiritual advisor for comfort and guidance to cope with the immense stress.

The filing states, "Pike is not isolated or singled out for poor treatment. On the contrary, she has received visits from counsel and her spiritual advisor, and she is subject to the same visitation policies and procedures as any other inmate in the infirmary."

The report mentioned that her spiritual adviser has previously been identified as the Rev. Mikey Noechel, a Buddhist teacher at East Nashville's Wild Heart Meditation Center.

"We'll be walking in with this practice of loving kindness, blessing the whole room with loving kindness," he told WPLN in September.

State officials, however, maintain that she should remain closely monitored and that her requests to alter her housing status inside the prison should be denied.

Pike has spent decades behind bars following her conviction for a 1995 murder.

She still faces a death sentence, but no new execution date has been announced yet.
