Rescuers look for survivors in the Vietnam boat tragedy
At least 15 Indian tourists were killed after a speedboat overturned near Vietnam's Phu Quoc Island today. It was carrying 32 tourists and four crew from Hon May Rut to An Thoi Port when it sank. The Indian embassy has shared more information.
- The speedboat sank 400 metres off Hon May Rut Ngoai, throwing everyone on board into the sea, Vietnamese news portal VN Express International reported. The sea was rough when the boat sank, local media said.
- Lava Mobiles in a post on X said "the incident involves some of our channel partners and team members." The company said it is extending all possible support to those affected and their families. Sources said a total of 110 Lava distributors and employees were on a trip to Vietnam.
- The Indian embassy in Hanoi said it set up control rooms as search and rescue operations would continue. Control rooms have been established at the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City and at the embassy in Hanoi to provide information and assistance.

- The cause of the accident wasn't immediately clear and an investigation was underway. Vietnamese authorities suspect rough sea conditions and a possible mechanical malfunction.
