1,490 confirmed cases, 30 deaths from swine flu: WHO
Geneva:

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has raised its global tally of confirmed cases of swine flu to 1,490.

It says there have been 30 confirmed deaths, all but one of them in Mexico.

WHO's flu chief Keiji Fukuda says most of the new confirmations came from Mexico.

He provided reporters in Geneva with no immediate breakdown of the cases and fatality figures.

Yesterday's swine flu tally by WHO had been 1,085 cases, with 26 deaths.

WHO lags behind the numbers reported by countries since it only updates its tally after receiving formal, written notification from governments.
