With a landmark reform that now allows working women 26 weeks of paid maternity leave, India now ranks 3rd globally in terms of compensating its working mothers. This also leaves behind developed countries like Japan, France and Germany that offer a paid maternity leave of 14 to 16 weeks. While the new legislation has been welcomed by many as a great step to empowering working women, some believe that it may make it even tougher for women to find jobs.
