Who Was Esmaeil Khatib?
Ismail Khatib, Iran's Intelligence Minister, has been killed in an overnight Israeli airstrike in Tehran, according to Iranian confirmation.
Khatib, a longtime security hardliner and key figure in Iran's intelligence apparatus, had been serving as the head of the Ministry of Intelligence since 2021. He was appointed during the tenure of former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and under Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
