West Bengal News | West Bengal Government Cuts Madrasa Funding

The West Bengal government has sparked a political controversy after proposing a significantly lower allocation for the Minority Affairs and Madrasa Education Department in the 2026-27 budget. The proposed outlay of over ₹2,165 crore is substantially lower than the ₹5,713 crore allocated in the interim budget earlier this year. While opposition parties have questioned the reduction, the government maintains that minority welfare has not been curtailed, arguing that benefits are now being delivered through broader welfare schemes accessible to all citizens.
