Mathew Antony, spokesperson for the Congress on the issue of the National Judicial Appointments Commission Act being passed in parliament in 2015 said that the judiciary has tried to maintain the separation of powers and thus its independence. He went on to state "we don't support the NJAC anymore, we did earlier but seeing the erosion of the separation of powers that is being perpetrated by the BJP government with their majority in the parliament, placing right-wing people at the helm of institutions, we no longer support the NJAC. He conceded saying that the Collegium system needed reform.
