The Election Commission of India (ECI) has denied claims made by Congress leader P Chidambaram that 6.5 lakh voters were added in Tamil Nadu, labeling them "misleading and baseless". The ECI said no Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise has been conducted in Tamil Nadu, making it absurd to link it to the SIR drive in Bihar. Mr Chidambaram alleged that while 65 lakh voters in Bihar were at risk of being disenfranchised, 6.5 lakh people were illegally added to Tamil Nadu's electoral rolls. The ECI urged politicians to avoid spreading false information that could obstruct the SIR drive in Bihar, where assembly polls are due.
