US Tariff Bomb Hits India's Exports; Textiles, Jewellery, Furniture in Crisis

Starting August 27, the United States will impose a 50% tariff on Indian imports, in response to India’s continued purchase of Russian crude oil and military equipment. Analysts call it one of the harshest trade setbacks India has faced in years. Key labour-intensive sectors like textiles, gems and jewellery, shrimp, carpets, and furniture are expected to suffer major losses, putting thousands of SMEs and jobs at risk.
