Students and faculty at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence in Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir, face an uncertain future after the National Medical Commission (NMC) withdrew permission to run its MBBS course. The decision followed a surprise inspection on January 2, which found the college failed to meet minimum standards. While the NMC has assured that students admitted for the 2025-26 batch will be accommodated in other recognised medical colleges within the Union Territory, the move-coming just months after the institute began operations-has triggered concern and anxiety among those associated with the college.
