Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said Wednesday, during his speech at the UN General Assembly, that the next UN secretary-general must be a woman from Latin America. "And what I'm advocating for this leadership is very clear. Nine men have served as secretary-general of this organization in its 80 years of existence. Now it's time for a woman to serve, a Latin American woman," he remarked. Sanchez argued that an organization representing all of humanity had never had a woman leading it and, similarly, that the organization representing all continents had never had a leader from Latin America, the third most populated continent
