UGC Equity Rules 2026 Explained: What They Say And Why There Is Controversy Over Them
The University Grants Commission, UGC, has notified the Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions Regulations, 2026. The new rules replace the 2012 framework, which was largely advisory, and make compliance binding for all higher education institutions. The regulations come amid Supreme Court scrutiny on how the older anti-discrimination rules were being implemented, in cases linked to Rohith Vemula and Payal Tadvi.
