Visuals from the scene showed Udhayanidhi smiling as police escorted him from his residence in Neelankarai. Reacting to the development, he described the arrest as a "joke" and said he would challenge it through legal means. A large number of police personnel were deployed outside his residence hours after the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) called for a protest over the issue.
