Trump Tariffs News | Trump Backs Russia Sanctions Bill, 500% Tariffs Loom on Buyers of Russian Oil

US President Donald Trump has thrown his weight behind a hard-hitting sanctions package aimed at economically crippling Moscow, even as his administration continues talks to end the Ukraine war. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said he met Trump at the White House, where the president cleared a Russia sanctions bill that has been in the works for months. The proposed legislation would allow the United States to impose sweeping tariffs of up to 500%, along with secondary sanctions, on countries that continue to buy Russian oil, gas, uranium and other exports. The US Senate is expected to vote on the bill as early as next week. If passed, the move could have major implications for countries such as India, China and Brazil, among the biggest buyers of Russian crude. Washington has repeatedly argued that such purchases indirectly support Russia’s war effort, a claim New Delhi has consistently rejected, maintaining that its oil imports are driven by affordability and domestic energy needs, not geopolitics.
