The Tadoba tiger reserve in Maharashtra has been on heightened 'poacher' alert for the last few weeks - an alert that has been extended to all tiger reserves here. But the state has lost at least eight tigers in the last five months and has prompted the national tiger conservation authority to declare that all tiger deaths across the country be treated as cases of poaching unless otherwise proved.
