Humans are built to stand upright. Standing increases energy levels, boosts productivity, reduces risk of obesity and also aids spine health. Prolonged sitting can impact your health in numerous ways, from weakening of large leg muscles to an increased risk of heart disease. Apart from causing stiff neck and shoulders, prolonged sitting can also increase risk of diabetes and varicose veins. However, prolonged standing also has negative health outcomes, like leg swelling, sore feet, fatigue and discomfort. We ask health and lifestyle experts about the right balance between standing and sitting, and why more standing helps.
