On this episode of The NDTV Dialogues, we look at a key clause of the Juvenile Justice Bill. It has been called the 'injustice bill' by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor even though his party actually supported it. That's because the controversy is over the lowering of age from 18 to 16 for children to be tried as adults for heinous crimes like murder and rape. A sign of the changing times and society, a shift from reformative to retributive justice or something that actually takes us backwards? Is this because of the anger over Nirbhaya case, Shakti mills case? Remember in the Nirbhaya case her parents have consistently said the Juvenile in this case should have got the death penalty. There are no easy answers this is something which have many different perspectives. Minister State of Home Kiren Rijiju; Congress MP Shashi Tharoor; Pinky Anand of the BJP and additional solicitor general; Delhi Police's Tejinder Luthra; Atiya Bose from the NGO 'Angan' which works with children; and former solicitor general and member of the Justice Verma committee, Gopal Subramaniam join NDTV for this debate.
