The controversy surrounding The Kerala Story appears far from over. After the commercial success of the first film, filmmaker Vipul Amrutlal Shah unveiled the trailer of its sequel, The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, on February 17, 2026 - triggering an immediate political backlash. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan criticised the film, calling it "poisonous" and alleging that it seeks to damage the secular fabric of the state. He urged that the film be scrutinised with utmost seriousness. Opposition parties have accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of using the film as political propaganda ahead of elections. The BJP, however, has rejected these allegations and backed the filmmakers.
