Telangana Water Row: BJP Chief Stopped On Way To Farmers’ Protest

A water-release dispute in Telangana has triggered a political confrontation, with BJP state president Ramchander Rao detained while travelling to the Priyadarshini Jurala Project to meet farmers protesting over irrigation water. The BJP alleges that police stopped its delegation from reaching the protest site, while party MP DK Aruna has also raised concerns over the alleged house arrest of BJP leaders in the region. Farmers, according to the BJP, are demanding the immediate release of water into irrigation canals, saying their crops are drying despite water being available at the Jurala Project. The government’s position, as cited by the BJP chief, is that releasing more water could create a drinking water shortage in the future. The BJP has questioned that reasoning and demanded water be released to protect crops. Hundreds of party workers were also reportedly detained as the political row over irrigation water intensifies.
