Taslima Nasreen, the exiled Bangladeshi author and human rights activist, is set to return to Kolkata nearly two decades after she was forced to leave the city following violent protests over her writings. The 63-year-old writer had to flee Kolkata after protests erupted over allegations of blasphemy in her autobiographical book, Dwikhandito (Divided). The then CPM-led government banned the book. The author, who lived in Kolkata between 2004 and 2007, now resides in Delhi on a long-term residence permit. Cut to 2026, and she is scheduled to attend a programme protesting fundamentalism at Rabindra Sadan on August 1. This will be her first visit to the city since 2007, following a collective invitation from three organisations.
