The BJP is accelerating its “Mission Tamil Nadu” ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah spearheading high-level strategy meetings in Chennai. Recent discussions have focused on alliance-building, strengthening the party’s grassroots network, and mounting a direct challenge to the ruling DMK led by Chief Minister M K Stalin, with the BJP targeting what it calls “family rule.” Sources indicate the BJP is exploring the possibility of an alliance with actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, though TVK is said to be cautious for now. The party is also reaching out to estranged AIADMK leaders including O Panneerselvam and T T V Dhinakaran, in an effort to revive and expand the NDA’s footprint in the state.
