Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister P Viswanathan speaks exclusively to NDTV on the growing confrontation between the state government and the Governor over the National Education Policy and vice-chancellor appointments. The minister says Tamil Nadu will not accept UGC nominees in VC search committees and argues that state universities should remain under the control of the state, with the Chief Minister as Chancellor. He also discusses the crisis of 12 universities without vice-chancellors, faculty shortages, capitation fees, engineering admissions and student welfare schemes. On politics, Viswanathan praises Chief Minister Vijay and predicts a sweeping victory for the TVK-Congress alliance in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
