Supreme Court Says Converted Christians Cannot Claim SC/ST Act Protection
In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court of India upheld a decision of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, reiterating that Scheduled Caste (SC) status is limited to Hindus, Sikhs, and Buddhists as per the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950. The court ruled that individuals who have converted to other religions cannot claim protections under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
