The Supreme Court of India has taken suo motu cognisance of the growing digital arrest scam, after receiving a complaint from senior citizens in Ambala who were allegedly forced to transfer Rs.1.5 crore through fake judicial orders and forged documents bearing the names of top judicial officers. The apex court has issued notices to the Centre and the Haryana government, observing that such scams not only target citizens but also undermine the credibility of the judiciary itself.
