SIR Row | “SIR Has Created A Frankenstein”: Ex-CEC OP Rawat On ECI Row

Former Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat has described the reported differences within the Election Commission over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls as “very serious” and “unfortunate”. Reacting to an Indian Express report, Rawat said the reported amendments to statutory Form 6 were “absolutely wrong and illegal”. The report said Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised objections at least 14 times over 10 months on issues including voter registration and deletion, Form 6 changes and centralisation of the electoral roll database. Election Commission sources, however, maintained that decisions concerning the SIR were unanimous and approved by all three commissioners.
