It is rare, almost unheard of, that a Hindi film looks at a topic like human trafficking, especially of young girls. It is also a welcome effort to mainstream a crime which impacts millions of people around the world and in India, majority are women and young girls. Annual profits according to the UN in human trafficking are as high as 36 billion dollars and it is the world's third most popular crime after illicit drugs and arms trafficking.

On the NDTV Dialogues, former Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar, Ruchira Gupta from Hyderabad, an activist and founder of Apne Aap, who is been honoured as a Clinton Global fellow for her work in this area, Sharmishtha Mukherjee, classical dancer and activist and Rani Mukherji, the heroine of 'Mardaani', discuss the issue.
