In partnership with USHA International, the Meghalaya Government has set-up two production centers in two Umsing and Betasing districts of Meghalaya to train women entrepreneurs in bag making. The production center produces cloth bags as an alternative to plastic bags. On the one hand, the partnership is serving the purpose of women empowerment and generating livelihood whereas, on the other hand, it is supporting a ban on plastic bags in the state. Similarly, USHA international partnered with West Bengal government. Usha International Limited and West Bengal Schedule Caste and Schedule tribe finance development corporation has set-up an additional 29 Silai Schools across the villages near Bongaon which is around 130 kms away from Kolkata.
