Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has demanded an FIR under the SC/ST law over a ‘shuddhikaran havan’ (purification ritual) conducted at a public ground in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge addressed a rally there. Calling the ritual a “crime”, Rahul Gandhi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that an FIR is registered and said it was the duty of the Centre and Uttarakhand government to ensure justice for Kharge. Kharge had addressed the Vijay Shankhnaad rally at Haldwani’s Ramlila Ground on August 8, while the reported purification ritual took place two days later.
