Thick haze from wildfires turned skies a deep orange in the Central Kalimantan city of Palangka Raya, shrouding the Kahayan River and nearby neighbourhoods as smoke from burning land spread across parts of Indonesia. The choking haze has also raised health concerns. Local NGO Save Our Borneo has provided health check-ups and oxygen assistance to residents, including children, suffering from breathing difficulties linked to deteriorating air quality. In South Sumatra, where dense smoke reduced visibility on roads in the provincial capital of Palembang, ride-hailing driver Arman Hadi said the haze has disrupted his work and daily activities for more than two months.
