In just 18 months, the bilateral relationship has recovered and is poised to prosper. Initially seen as pro-China and anti-India, President Muizzu and his entire cabinet warmly welcomed PM Modi at the airport. India has consistently supported the Maldives with financial aid and development projects. As the PM attends Independence Day celebrations, it's evident that while China offers loans across the Indo-Pacific, smaller island nations are growing wary of its expanding military and strategic presence.
