Prosecutors said Melendez timed the attack to maximise harm and later identified him through CCTV footage. He was arrested days later and charged with attempted murder in the second degree. Following his arrest, Melendez denied the allegations, while prosecutors have sought a $750,000 bond citing public safety concerns.
