When one speaks of having a child, one usually talks of god's will and grace and there is a fatalistic attitude to conception. In many states, chief among them Punjab and Haryana, female foeticide or infanticide is rampant, and the desire for a male child often negates the female one. Now in order to curb this trend, the local administration in Chandigarh has engaged the priests to spread awareness.
