Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone at an event to mark the launch of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University in Aligarh, about 150 km from Delhi. The university is named after a Jat icon and a freedom fighter and the event has been viewed as an outreach to the community leading the farmers' protest in UP as elections approach. In western UP, 17 per cent of Jat vote bank remains crucial for the 2022 UP polls. While on the surface, there is always talk of development, fixing caste equations seems essential for political survival. The question is, will it work?
