Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Parveen Pardeshi says the authorities have pumped out water from heavy waterlogged areas in one-and-a-half hours. He said due to high proportion of the land surface being built-up in the last 50 years, water run-off is high. In normal areas, it is 60 per cent of the rainfall... This means whatever amount of rain falls, it runs off. "We are observing that there are fewer rainy days but the average rainfall remains the same," he said.
