Ray said he felt increasingly isolated within the Trinamool Congress after demanding an internal inquiry into the alleged role of certain police officers in the case. Speaking after resigning from both the Rajya Sabha and the party, the veteran leader alleged that sincere workers had been sidelined while corruption and criminal elements were allowed to flourish. He claimed that his concerns over the RG Kar case and broader issues of law and order marked the turning point in his relationship with the party leadership.
