Journalists, civil society organisations, rights groups and political activists staged protests across Pakistan on Saturday to condemn the military regime's ban on the independent Geo and ARY television news channels. Early on Saturday morning, the two channels were ordered to halt broadcasts from Dubai by authorities in the United Arab Emirates after they refused to sign a Pakistan government-mandated code of conduct.
