In major relief for Narendra Modi, a Gujarat court today accepted a clean chit given to him in the 2002 communal violence in the state. Petitioner Zakia Jafri, wife of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri who was killed in the riots, has said that she is disappointed with the court's decision and will pursue the matter. But even as the Congress continues to attack Mr Modi over his allegedly anti-secular credentials, does the court's verdict come as a moral victory for Mr Modi and the BJP, reducing the Congress to the 'politics of negativity'? 2002 riots case: chief of special probe team defends report

On The Buck Stops Here, the head of the Supreme Court constituted Special Investigation Team entrusted with probing the 2002 Gujarat riots cases, RK Raghavan, has defended the report that was the basis for the Ahmedabad court's decision exonerating Narendra Modi. Mr Raghavan told NDTV that his team has produced the best report possible, while adhering to all the restrictions of time and tests of judicial scrutiny. While he refused to discuss specifics, Mr Raghavan told NDTV that he was happy with the fact that his team's report had passed close examination by the court.
