An offshore magnitude 7.8 earthquake rocked the southern Philippines early Monday. Slight damage was reported in the main city near the epicenter of the Monday morning earthquake. In a video shared by Mahayahay Elementary School on social media, school children were seen screaming and crying during the quake when a canopy roof collapsed. The school said, "We are grateful that all pupils, teachers, and personnel remained calm and orderly throughout the situation. No injuries were reported, and classes suspended after the necessary safety assessment." The quake also set off a 1-meter (3-foot) tsunami that washed ashore on nearby coasts. At least four people were killed and more than 200 others injured, officials said.
