Outrage erupted after the eleven men who gangraped Bilkis Bano in 2002 during the Gujarat riots were granted early release. Bilkis' three-year-old daughter was among the seven killed by the mob that day. The release of these men came on Independence Day - the same day that the Prime Minister spoke about women's empowerment.
