Parliament Showdown | Opposition Submits No-Trust Motion Against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla

A full-blown political confrontation in Parliament. The BJP and the Opposition are locked in a bitter war of words over the February 4 incident in which Congress MPs allegedly surrounded the Prime Minister’s seat in the Lok Sabha. The BJP claims it was a planned attempt to intimidate the Prime Minister and says women Congress MPs involved are under scrutiny. The Congress has hit back, accusing the government of stifling dissent and shielding unparliamentary conduct by ruling party members. Amid the escalating row, a dramatic development: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has reportedly decided to stay away from House proceedings after the Opposition moved a notice seeking his removal. Over 100 MPs have signed the motion under Article 94C, alleging partisan conduct by the Speaker, including suspension of Opposition MPs and denial of debate time to the Leader of the Opposition. Sources say Birla will not preside until the motion is taken up, following parliamentary convention.
