The opposition's campaign over the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is moving beyond Parliament and onto the streets. The INDIA bloc has announced district-level “Save Democracy Marches” from October 2 to 8, along with a march by Opposition MPs to the Election Commission on October 6. The bloc is also pressing its concerns over SIR, voter rolls and the functioning of the poll panel. The Left wants to broaden the mobilisation beyond the INDIA bloc by reaching out to the DMK and other non-NDA parties, as well as civil society groups and prominent public figures. This puts the focus on whether parties with differences over alliance politics can come together on the issue of electoral rolls and the Election Commission.
