The government has taken a decisive step against the online gaming industry, where real money is used to play these games. On Wednesday, the Lok Sabha passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, banning the operation, facilitation, and advertisement of games played with real money. The bill also got an upper house approval on Thursday, paving the way for it to become law regulating the digital gaming sector. According to the Information and Technology Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, the enactment of this bill aims to address rising social and public health concerns linked to such games.
