Last year the entire country grieved the death of its brave son Colonel Santosh Babu in a violent clash with Chinese forces in eastern Ladakh's Galwan Valley. A year later, a 10-feet-high bronze statue of the Galwan hero was unveiled at his hometown in Telangana's Suryapet in the presence of his family and minister KT Rama Rao. Santoshi, the colonel's wife, was made a deputy collector by the Telangana government which also gave financial aid and land to the family for a house for the colonel's sacrifice. Colonel Santosh Babu was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra - the country's second highest military decoration - in January this year.
