In remote villages of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district residents are forced to cross a fragile bamboo bridge to access the world beyond the Sono River. The bamboo bridge was originally constructed as a temporary arrangement but has become permanent due to unfulfilled government promises. Villagers risk their lives daily while crossing the bridge to meet essential needs including education, markets and healthcare. Despite repeated appeals to the government over the past 15–20 years for a permanent bridge no construction has taken place. The bridge connects Bairatpur village in Udala block under Kochiladiha panchayat with Jaypur panch.
