Nora Fatehi Song Row Escalates: NCW Issues Summons, Debate On Accountability Deepens

The controversy over Nora Fatehi’s song has intensified into a wider debate on accountability in the entertainment industry. After the track was taken down over alleged vulgar and objectionable lyrics, the National Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognisance and issued summons to Nora Fatehi, co-artistes, and the film’s creators, seeking explanations on March 24. The government has also stepped in, with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stressing that freedom of expression must operate within constitutional limits. While Nora Fatehi and the lyricist have distanced themselves from the Hindi version of the song, the row has drawn sharp political reactions, with calls for stricter scrutiny of content and legal accountability under existing laws.
