When asked about what he thought of the very public mud-slinging taking place between the government and judiciary, Supreme Court Advocate Aashutosh Srivastava said that "the constitution is supreme. "There is no provision for the Collegium system in the constitution. It is clear that the Collegium system is neither a parliamentary nor a constitutional provision. Article 124 states that the President of India can appoint Supreme Court judges in consultation with the Chief Justice of India. Nowhere does it say that whether the consent of the Chief Justice is necessary or not," he said.
