Independent MP from Maharashtra, Navneet Kaur Rana, was today fined Rs 2 lakh by the Bombay High Court for submitting a fake caste certificate. The court has also cancelled the caste certificate issued, saying "it was obtained fraudulently using fabricated documents". Ms Rana, the first-time Member of Parliament from Amravati, the second-largest city in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, now faces the prospect of losing her seat. In an interview to NDTV, she said: "The certificates were approved by the district court after all checks were done, it seems there is politics behind this, I will appeal to the Supreme Court, and I am sure I will get justice."
