The Amar Jawan Jyoti or "eternal flame" for soldiers was put out at India Gate in Delhi today, 50 years after it was first lit, and merged with the torch at the National War Memorial in a military ceremony. Utpal Parrikar, the son of three-time Goa Chief Minister and former Union Minister Manohar Parrikar, parted company with the BJP today after the party refused to offer him ticket for the Panaji seat in the coming assembly polls and other top stories.
