In a new book on the 1965 war, Congress leader Amarinder Singh - then ADC to the Western Army Commander, General Harbaksh Singh - reveals an extraordinary untold story of the war. He says the General defied verbal orders from the Army Chief to pull back troops in Punjab, and that single act of determined courage is what saved Punjab, in particular Amristar from falling into Pakistani control.
